N80 Maidenhead Realignment Scheme and N81 Knockroe Bends Realignment – highway structure foundation designs

We recently assisted StructuralInnov8 and Clonmel Enterprises with geotechnical design for four culverts and an underpass structure for two national roads schemes.

The N80 Maidenhead Realignment Scheme was undertaken to realign the “Arles Bends” on the N80 at Maidenhead, Co. Laois, for a distance of 2km. We assessed the ground conditions, provided bearing capacities for structural design and the Technical Acceptance Report, and specified and monitored site testing to confirm the assumed ground conditions for one culvert and one pedestrian underpass. The scheme is now in service improving road safety in Co. Laois.

The N81 Knockroe Bends Realignment Scheme was undertaken to realign the “Knockroe Bend” on the N81 in Co. Wicklow for a distance of 1km. Again, we assessed the ground conditions, provided bearing capacities for structural design, and specified and monitored site testing to confirm the assumed ground conditions for three culverts. The scheme is also now in service. Image credits: Clonmel Enterprises.
